Objectives for Capitulum XXVI – “Daedalus & Icarus”
It is expected that upon completion of the reading from the text and of the several exercises in the packet we will know:
➢ Gerunds – their forms and uses, particularly the most frequently occuring uses ➢ A bit about future imperatives (at least estō/estōte) ➢ Quisnam/Quidnam in negative expressions ➢ āēra – accusative form of āēr, āeris, M. ➢ The ‘postpositives’ quidem, enim, quoque, vērō, igitur ¬– meanings and use ➢ First and second declension adjectives whose masculine nominative singular ends in –er ➢ Third decelension adjectives – one termination, two terminations and three terminations ➢ The new vocabulary introduced in the chapter (which are all listed with essential parts, categorized by part of speech, defined, and related to derivatives in the packet) ➢ The story of Daedalus and Icarus
Suggested procedure:
➢ read the the excerpt from Discō Latīnē and the two page grammar explanation ➢ look for similarities, differences and patterns in the new vocabulary words (from the two pages devoted to vocabulary in the packet) ➢ read the text ➢ do the exercises I (Gerundium), II (Scrībe Anglicē), III (Implē gerundium), IV (Adiectīva) ➢ re-read the text ➢ do the exercises from Oerberg’s workbook, except for Exercises 3, 6 & 9 ➢ re-read the text ➢ do Exercises 3, 6 & 9 on the three separate pages provided ➢ check your answers with mine on the last sheet
